June, Term 2, Week 7 and 8 - Science Alive

Financial Literacy
We learnt about money and what it is worth. We put the money in order from 10cents to $100.

We then talked about saving money and how you can save money.

Science Alive
In Inquiry we have been learning about Outer Space. We have been learning about the sun and how we get day and Night, the moon, the stars and the planets.
It has been a lot of fun learning about Outer Space. We have particularly liked having Science Alive come in to teach us. The discovery dome was fun. It was like a big tent and was full of stars.

We learnt that the craters on the Moon were made by large rocks and meteors crashing into the Moon's surface. The Moon has no atmosphere to stop the rocks from coming.

We learnt that the Moon goes around the earth and the earth goes around the sun. It takes 4 weeks for the Moon to go around the earth and 1 year for the earth to go around the sun. It takes 24 hours for the earth to do one full turn.

We learnt about day and night. We learnt there are some things you can only see at day time like the sun, and some things you can only see at night like the planets and the stars. The Moon can be seen in the day and the night.

We learnt about stars. They are a lot of different colours. The blue stars are the hot stars and the red ones are cold. The stars come in a lot of different sizes. The sun is a star and it is the biggest star. We made a galaxy full of stars using glue, chalk and a sparkle.

We learnt about the planets and put them in the correct order. Earth is the third planet to the sun. Saturn is the only planet with rings around it and Jupiter is the biggest planet.

This is a solar car. It has a solar panel on it which gives it power to move.

Week 4 26.5.14

We have had a great week! On Monday we ran the Syndicate Assembly. We did a fantastic job of saying our line and sharing our dinosaur stories.

We even won the assembly star for sitting beautifully. We were very proud of ourselves!

A man from the City Council came to see us on Thursday. He talked to us about bite prevention and how to be safe around dogs.
"If a dog's on it's own, Leave it alone!"

On Friday we said goodbye to Mrs Kearns. She is leaving to have a baby. In story writing this week we wrote her notes. Most of us think she is going to have a boy. I wonder if who will be right.
We had a surprize party for her to show her how much we will miss her.

Mrs Kearns and Room 2 walked in down the golden path.

We dressed Mrs Kearns up and sat her on a special chair.

We gave Mrs Kearns a GIANT card with all our stories in. She read some of them to everyone.

Room 2 then shared there messages to Mrs Kearns and gave her hugs to say goodbye.

We gave her some baby clothes. They look like they will fit the baby.

We sang Mrs Kearns a song. Katy Perry "Roar" is one of our favourite songs.
We pretended to be tigers.

We said our final goodbyes to Mrs Kearns. We loved having her in our syndicate and we hope she has a great time making new memories with her baby.
