Week 7 and 8, Term 4

In week 8 we got our first swim in the swimming pool. We have been loving going in the pool and learning about water safety.

In P.E with Arn we have been learning some hockey skills. We are learning to control the ball with the stick.

The Year 7 students taught us each a new skill. Some of us learn origami, ukulele, computers, drawing, dodgeball and gardening. It was a lot of fun working with the big kids.

We also won the star class for being the best class in assembly. We sat up with out arms and legs folded, faced the front and sat quietly. We get to have the star trophy in our class and have some free play.

Term 4, Week 2

We have had a very busy week at school.
On Monday we hosted the Junior Syndicate Assembly and shared our holiday writing. Miss McCoy was very proud of our hard work and loud, clear voices.

This week we read "Shoo Fly" as our Big Book in Reading. We made chefs hats and came up with things we could make for Miss McCoy to eat. It was a lot of fun.

On Friday it was Red Mufti day for "Radio Lollipop". We also did a colouring in competition and had a best dressed competition.
In Balloon Badminton on Friday we graduated to using a "shuttle cock". We had to practice how to throw it and learnt how it moves. We also got the balloons back out and practiced hitting them back and forward to our buddies.

We also had Miss Harris join us on Friday. She is going to be joining us in Room 1 some days. We are excited to have another teacher in Room 1 with us.

Balloon Badminton

On Friday we had our first balloon badminton session with Carrie from Badnminton Canterbury.
When we were listening we had to put out balloon between out feet.

We learnt an underarm swing- we had our fingers facing the ground.

We had to keep the balloon off the ground.

Then we did over arm- when the balloon was over our head.

After we practised over arm and under arm we had to make it go straight. We could use under arm or over arm. It was quite hard. Hitting if softer was easier to control.

It was a lot of fun! We are looking forward to our next session.

Poetry Finals, wk9 T3

The Room 1 children have been working very hard over the last couple of weeks to learn a poem each.
The poems needed to be learn off by heart, spoken clearly and at a good pace, expression used, actions and in a loud voice. Everyone did a wonderful job!

On Tuesday we had the poetry finals.
Olivia and Harry represented Room 1.
Olivia shared her poem "My Snowball" and Harry shared his Poem "My Cat Alfie".
They both did a wonderful job sharing their poems to the syndicate, parents and judges.
The New Entrant finalists were, Tyson 1st, Tyson 2nd and Harry 3rd. We were excited for Harry.
The Junior finalists were Zara 1st, Molly 2nd and Jason 3rd.

All the children did very well to have shared their poems in front of such a large audience.
We are very proud of them all.

Skip Rope for Heart, Skipping September

At school we are participating in Jump Rope for Heart. Some of us have set ourselves goals to achieve with our skipping.
A lot of us had never skipped before so this has been a fun learning experience for us all. We have been enjoying learning to skip, some of us have also been trying to skip backwards.
