Matariki, week 9-10

We have been learning about Matariki, Maori New Year.
We have done some art. There are 7 stars in Matariki and several myths as to what they mean or represent. The pleisaides disappear in May and when they reappear in the sky that's the New Year. Maori use the stars clarity to figure out if the coming year will be a good year or not and whether they will have a good harvest.

We had some ladies from the public library Come to talk to us about Matariki. We were very lucky.

We were read a book called Matariki.

We learnt a song. You can see it by clicking the link.

We also did some art. We made Maori  cloaks too. We used patterns to make rubbings.

Week 8, term 2.

In P.E we have been working on gymnastics. For a warm up we had to move around without touching anyone. When Greg blew his whistle we had to freeze in a Gymnastic move. Some of us stopped on a pike, straddle or pencil. These are some of the movements for the rolls we do on the mats.

We have been doing a dish roll, with out arms and legs off the ground.

We have been learning a hedgehog roll which is when we are tucked into a ball.

We have been learning the elephant roll. We start in a straddle and roll like a star.

On Monday we ran the junior assembly.
We did an amazing job if speaking in front of everyone. We spoke in a loud clear voice and we were very brave.

On Wednesday Charlotte came to visit us. We decorated some birds from our Big Book called "I think I'll go flying".
We used pastels to make them nice and bright.

In the book the bird flew over, under, inside and outside a cloud. We went on the playground for fitness and had to go up, down, over, under and through something.
Going up a ladder.

Going around a pole.

Going over the monkey bars.

Going down the ladder.

Going up the spiral ladder.

Going over the plank.
