Week 4 26.5.14

We have had a great week! On Monday we ran the Syndicate Assembly. We did a fantastic job of saying our line and sharing our dinosaur stories.

We even won the assembly star for sitting beautifully. We were very proud of ourselves!

A man from the City Council came to see us on Thursday. He talked to us about bite prevention and how to be safe around dogs.
"If a dog's on it's own, Leave it alone!"

On Friday we said goodbye to Mrs Kearns. She is leaving to have a baby. In story writing this week we wrote her notes. Most of us think she is going to have a boy. I wonder if who will be right.
We had a surprize party for her to show her how much we will miss her.

Mrs Kearns and Room 2 walked in down the golden path.

We dressed Mrs Kearns up and sat her on a special chair.

We gave Mrs Kearns a GIANT card with all our stories in. She read some of them to everyone.

Room 2 then shared there messages to Mrs Kearns and gave her hugs to say goodbye.

We gave her some baby clothes. They look like they will fit the baby.

We sang Mrs Kearns a song. Katy Perry "Roar" is one of our favourite songs.
We pretended to be tigers.

We said our final goodbyes to Mrs Kearns. We loved having her in our syndicate and we hope she has a great time making new memories with her baby.

Week 3, Term 2 - Cross Country

Cross Country

This week we had our Cross Country. It was the first one we have done. We were super excited that we were able to wear our house colour shirts and have our families come and watch us.

This is us getting ready to go over for our big race.

The girls and boys all lined up ready to head to the start line.

And we are off...

We ran around the field.

Then we crossed the finish line. A lot of our families were waiting for us.

Zayde came 3rd in the 5 year old boys.

After the race.
We are all still smiling. We all tried our best and had a great time!

Term 2

We are at the end of Week 1. It is good to be back at school after the holidays.
This week we have started to do a lot of running. We have the New Entrant and Junior Cross Country coming up in week 3 so we need to do a lot of practice.

It is Mothers Day this weekend and we have made some special cards for our Mum's. We wrote stories about why we love out Mum's to go on the inside. Hopefully our Mum's think we did a good job.
We all Love our Mum's.

End of Term 1

What a term we have had!
We are experts at school now and have settled in well! Miss McCoy is very proud of all the wonderful learning we have been doing!

In the last week of term Ronald McDonald came in to see us. We learnt about road safety. He was very funny!

We said goodbye to some of our friends from the New Entrant Syndicate when they graduated up to the Junior Syndicate. We are very happy for them and hope they enjoy their new classes.

We made an arch for them to go through.

On the last day of term we made Easter puzzles with our Buddy Class. It was a lot of fun making them. We had to colour all the pieces in and cut them out. Then we had to put them back together.

We also got to have an Easter Egg hunt with the New Entrants.
We had a great term in Room 1 and we cannot wait to come back to school!

Week 10

On Friday there were no children left in Room 1.
We had a Careers Day and we dressed up as what we want to be when we grow up.
There were a lot of emergency workers and medical staff. We would be well looked after if anything happened. We also had people who were going to look after and work with animals. There were several school teachers and even a school principal! There was a builder on call to fix broken things, a scientist to build robots, a hunter to make sure we wouldn't starve and a florist to make sure the classroom looked pretty.
After morning tea we got together with all the other New Entrants and had a parade in Room 3.
We had a great day dressed up as adults!

Weeks 7-9 Term 1

Buddy Class

Room 13 is our buddy class. We get to read with them on a Friday. They came over to our class with some exciting picture books to read us. We also read our reading books to them.

We are looking forward to getting to do things with our buddy class this year.

Alphabet Party

The New Entrants had an alphabet party to celebrate learning their alphabet sounds. We have been learning all the names of letters and the sounds they make. Knowing the letters and the sounds they make helps us with our reading and our writing. We made alphabet fairy bread, played alphabet and phonics games and did alphabet crafts.

These are some pictures of the fun things we did.

New Entrant Trip

We have been looking at people and places of significance in our community. For our topic we went to the Botanic Gardens and the Canterbury Museum. These are both places of importance in our community. We had a scavenger hunt to do when we went through the Botanic Gardens. Along the way we found the Peace Bell made out of coins and medals, the thorny rose garden and some New Zealand plants. The museum has a lot of history and information about Christchurch. It also has a fun Discovery room where we were able to explore and try new things.

Week 4 Term 1

We have really enjoyed our week. This week we had 4 of our new class members come and visit us. It was nice meeting some new friends. We can't wait till they come back next week. While they were with us we created some hisssssing ssssssnakes.

We also had the Junior and New Entrant Triathlon.

Some of us had to swim across the width of the school pool then we had to tag the next person in our team.

The next person rode the scooter around the car park and then tagged the runner who ran around the field.

It was a lot of fun!
