Kia Kaha with Constable Debbie 9.3.16

For Inquiry this term we have been doing a unit called "Kia Kaha". Kia Kaha means to be strong.
We have been getting to know each other and learning that we are all special. There are a lot of things that make us special including, how we look, our families and the things we like. We have also been learning how to be safe at school and in our community.
On Wednesday Constable Debbie came to talk to us about bullying.
Bullying is hurtful and may hurt somebodies body or their feelings. They keep doing it and it is NOT OK!

One thing we can do if someone is bothering us is use our WITS.
W- walk away
I- ignore
T- talk it out
S- seek help

Constable Debbie went through this with us.

On the playground we can seek help from
-Duty Teacher (bright yellow vest)
-Peer Mediators (bright orange vest) -the Peer Mediators are big kids in the school who can help us.

We read a story which was about a girl who had been kicked. She was sad and her friend helped look after her. The girl went and told the teacher and she helped her to solve the problem in a fair way.

We had to try put the story into order.

Another story we read was "Milly, Molly and Pennyroyal". It taught us that is doesn't matter who is in the front, back or middle of the line when we line up. We are all going to the same place and will arrive together.

Skate Park 8.3.16

Tuesday is our syndicate's day to go to the skate park at lunch time.
This week was our first time over there. A lot of us bought our scooters and bikes to have a go.
It was a lot of fun!

Room 13, our buddy class for the day

On Friday our Buddy class, Room 18, couldn't come to see us. Luckily, Room 13 was free to come and see us. We did buddy reading with them. Because it was a nice day we could sit outside in the sun.
We liked being able to read to Room 13.

Sea Week Dress up Day 4.3.16

We had such a great week in week 6. It was Sea week!
We did sea art, read sea books and had a fun dress up day on Friday.
On the Friday we came to school dressed up as a sea creature. We had a parade outside the Junior block to show everyone our costumes. The Belfast Kindy joined us too.
After the parade we draw sea creatures and other things on the sea with chalk.
It was a lot of fun!

This is the Kindy Kids. They came dressed at Rainbow Fish.

Buddy Class 26.2.16

On Friday's we see our Buddy Class, Room 18. Sometimes we read with them or play games with us. This week we went on a scavenger hunt around the Junior playground.
Our buddies helped read the question and helped us to find the answers.
It was a lot of fun!

Fudge

In Room 1 when we work together as a class, all work quietly or all make good choices, we get a sticker in the leopard.
There are 10 spaces. When we get 10 stickers we get a treat of some kind.

For our treat we made our own fudge.

At Belfast School we are Dog Smart!

The city council Dog Smart people came to our school to teach us how to be safe with Dogs.
We learnt that we have to clean up after our dogs, give them a safe environment to live and look after them.
We also sang a song and learnt if...
A dog's on its own, leave it alone!
If we want to pat a dog we must ask its owner first. When we go to pat a dog we put our hand in a fist and pat them under their tummy, not their head.
