Financial literacy with ASB

Captain Cash looks after all the money in the world. Captain Cash needed help because there is a lot of money in the world. She trained us to be money super Heroes.

We needed to know what money looked like.
The circle money is coins.
Some coins are gold ($1 and $2), some are silver (20 and 50 cents) and the 10cent piece is bronze.
They're just like the olympics medals. Gold gets us the most, silver gets us the next most and bronze gets us least. Gold coins are dollars. Silver and bronze are cents.

We learnt you can buy more with notes. All notes are dollars.

We had to put the coins and notes in order from smallest to biggest. $100 is worth the most.

Needs and wants:

Seeds need water, sunshine.
We pretended to be seeds.

Larry the fish had food and water and a toy castle he could play in. He was sad when the castle was taken away to be cleaned but he could survive with out it because he had food and water.
Sometimes we need things to live and sometimes we want things.
We played a game about needs and wants. We need, water, vegetables, exercise, play and sleep.
We don't need chocolate, Lego, lollies and barbies.
Needs are more important. If you only had a bit of money you would buy the needs first.
"Speed to your needs and wait for your wants."

We enjoyed learning about money and needs and wants.

CSO VISIT BELFAST SCHOOL 1.8.16

A group from the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra came to visit us at school.

From the Woodwind family they had a;
Flute- They played a piece from Peter and the wolf . A flute has a small mouth piece.

Picallo-  It has a very high whistle sound.

Clarinet- had a Reid (vibrates sound) biggest range of sound with high and low sounds.

From the Brass family there was a;
Trumpet-  We thought it was funny becuase he said he pretty much blow farts all day. A trumpet was used as a signalling devise in the old days. He played the Star Wars theme and the pink panther. Because the trumpet is so loud there is a mute to make it quieter and to make different sounds.

From the string family there was;
Violin- the bow which helps you play the intrument is made of horse hair and the instrument is made of wood. Someone got to go and help play "twinkle twinkle".
Chello- is bigger than a violin. The vibration travels through the bridge.
Usually in an Orchestra there is also a Double bass.

There was no instruments from the Percussion family to we did some body percussion.

Our Junior Assembly, 4.7.16

Today we ran the Junior Syndicate Assembly. We all did a wonderful job!

We all spoke in a loud clear voice. Miss McCoy was super proud of us all for getting up in front of a large audience.

Oma Rapiti- JNR syndicate Assembly

For Maori Language week we sang Oma Rapiti in Assembly. It was a lot of fun!

21st of June, Miss McCoy's Birthday

We had a fun day celebrating Miss McCoy's Birthday. We got to decorate cupcakes with icing and sprinkles. It was fun!
We also got to make our own puzzle's. We had to colour them in with a picture of something we like. We then got to pull them apart so we could do them like a real puzzle.
They turned out really well!
Jen also made Miss McCoy a birthday cake and we all sang her Happy Birthday. Then we all got a piece for morning tea.
It was delicious!

PE with Arne

We have been learning to control the ball with our feet. It was hard not using our hands but we had a lot of fun.
