Our School Trip
We are off to a busy start in Room 1. This term is going very quickly and will be over before we know it.
In week 1 we kicked off our inquiry topic by going to Ferrymead. The New Entrants are learning about change. It was great to see how life was 100 years ago for children our age. They had different rules we had to follow for example, children were seen and not heard, this meant we had to be quiet when walking around.
We got to dress up in outfits that would of worn. They were very different to our school uniforms and the clothes we would wear now.
We learnt how to do house keeping. We washed the clothes and the dishes, ironed clothes, polished shoes and silver and dusted the house.
We played games. The toys they used to play with were made out of wood and metal. They didn't have plastic toys like we have today.
We tried to get a job at the general store. We had orders we had to fill and we had to go around the store and collect everything. There was rice to be weighed, soap to be wrapped, lollies and buttons to be bagged up and fruit to collect.
We also went to school. The school there was very different to our school. It had no colour, blackboard instead of whiteboards, no books and we had to be VERY well behaved. The teachers there were mean.
We had a great time at Ferrymead!
Since being back at school we have been learning more about what has changed. We have been comparing the old toys to the toys we have now and talking about how they are the same and different. We have had to classify them into groups of then and now.
Some of their toys look fun, though we like our toys.
We are very lucky!
