LMS Story telling

On Tuesday we were lucky enough to have some students from the LMS come and read us some stories they wrote. Zara and Sophie wrote one of the stories and Cate and Maddie wrote the other one. We thought they were wonderful stories and can't wait to be able to write like them.

Fruit Kebabs 24.5.16

For healthy eating week we made fruit kebabs. We had to thread the fruit onto a kebab stick. We could choose any kind of fruit we wanted.
Miss McCoy gave us a marshmallow as a treat. It was fun!

Food Revolution Day 2016

Friday the 20th of May was Food Revolution Day.
Room 1 took part of Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution Day. We made Fabulous Frozen Fruit Smoothies. The smoothies had some of our 5+ A Day, protein to keep us full and Carbohydrates to give us energy. The kids had a great time working together to add the ingredients to make our smoothie. We thought it was delicious!

Access to good, fresh, nutritious food is every child’s human right. It’s easy to agree with this, but the reality is an astounding 41 million children under the age of five are overweight or obese, while another 159 million kids are too short for their age. None of these children are growing healthily. Jamie is calling on us all to join a global Food Revolution in order to provoke debate and inspire real, meaningful, positive change in the way our children access, consume and understand food.
We want to shout about important food issues, encourage everyone to take part in impactful change and push governments to improve their food and nutrition policies. This is a space for us all – individuals, parents, policymakers, communities and businesses – to come together, make a noise, share our stories and debate the issues that can provide our children with access to good, fresh, nutritious food for generations to come. This is a global revolution – wherever you are, join us.

Good food education enables people everywhere to develop a better, more understanding and balanced relationship with food, in turn empowering them to make responsible, healthy, sustainable food choices, for life. With better food education, people can make better choices with what is available to them, wherever they are in the world.

Food Revolution Day breaks record for longest-ever Facebook Live campaign and reaches 50 million.
This year, not only were there incredible events taking place on the ground all over the world to celebrate Food Revolution Day, but we also took to Facebook to broad the longest-ever Facebook Live campaign!
From London to Australia and Canada to Tanzania, Jamie was joined by the following well-known chefs and personalities from 10 different countries, all of whom carried out Facebook Live broadcasts from the around the world to help make history:

Road Safety with Constable Debbie 16.5.16

Constable Rick and Constable Debbie came to teach us about ROAD SAFETY
We learnt to look for things around the road, where we should be walking to keep safe, where to cross, and what drivers look out for.
We discussed what traffic is- cars, trucks, police car, motorbike, bus- traffic is something on the road that has wheels.
If we will cross the road we need something that will help us cross. - mums and dads, big people, road patrollers- they can see the cars, they are taller. When it is safe to cross they will tell you it's is safe to cross the road.

We need to look and listen to make sure we are aware of what is happening.

We went to the gate to do an activity.
We had to close our eyes and listen to what we could hear. -cars, wind, trucks, speedy cars, birds chirping. We need to keep listening to traffics to keep ourselves safe.

Don't go on the red man. Wait for the green man and make sure the cars have stopped before crossing the road.

We looked for signs for the drivers- read and white give way signs- slow down and stop, be careful. 50- car can only drive at 50km an hour. Blue signs -road sign. Bus stops- where the bus stops.

Driveway- we need to stop and look for cars. Not all cars in driveways are coming out- we know this if they have no noise coming from it, no person, the wheels are stopped, no lights are on. We can't see up all driveways, some are sneaky because we can't see up them because of fences and other things.

We named some parts of the road.
Footpaths are for out feet and scooters. The curb is near the road so we stay away from it because it is Next to The road is for cars, the gutter is for water.

Room 1 discussed what they learnt when they got back to class. These are some of the things they said...

  • You are only allowed to cross the road when no cars are coming.
  • Wait for the green man to come up.
  • Don't go on the red man because the cars wont be stopped.
  • Cross the road with a teacher, our mums and dads, and road patrol children.
  • Watch out for motorbikes, police cars, cars, trucks, bus, ambulance.
  • Bike o the road.
  • Walk on the footpath, away from the curb.
  • We saw some signs that are helpful for the cars.
