Halloween Disco

Halloween Disco
On Friday the 31st of October it was Halloween. There was a school disco and everyone dressed up.
The DJ played some really cool music and did lolly scrambles.
We ate a lot of lollies and did a lot of dancing.
It was a lot of fun!
Here are some photo's of our exciting evening.

Week 1 and 2, Term 4

Our School Trip

We are off to a busy start in Room 1. This term is going very quickly and will be over before we know it.
In week 1 we kicked off our inquiry topic by going to Ferrymead. The New Entrants are learning about change. It was great to see how life was 100 years ago for children our age. They had different rules we had to follow for example, children were seen and not heard, this meant we had to be quiet when walking around.
We got to dress up in outfits that would of worn. They were very different to our school uniforms and the clothes we would wear now.

We learnt how to do house keeping. We washed the clothes and the dishes, ironed clothes, polished shoes and silver and dusted the house.

We played games. The toys they used to play with were made out of wood and metal. They didn't have plastic toys like we have today.

We tried to get a job at the general store. We had orders we had to fill and we had to go around the store and collect everything. There was rice to be weighed, soap to be wrapped, lollies and buttons to be bagged up and fruit to collect.

We also went to school. The school there was very different to our school. It had no colour, blackboard instead of whiteboards, no books and we had to be VERY well behaved. The teachers there were mean.

We had a great time at Ferrymead!

Since being back at school we have been learning more about what has changed. We have been comparing the old toys to the toys we have now and talking about how they are the same and different. We have had to classify them into groups of then and now.
Some of their toys look fun, though we like our toys.
We are very lucky!

Week 8 and 9 Term 3

We have been very busy in Room 1!
In week 8 we ran the New Entrant and Junior assembly.
We shared our Spring stories with everyone. They are hanging in the classroom if you would like to come and see them. They are very colourful, just like Spring!

The presenters had to speak in a loud and clear voice so everyone in the audience could hear them.
We did a great job!

This term we have been working hard on learning a poem for the New Entrant and Junior poetry competition.
We had to use a nice clear voice, to speak loudly, make eye contact with the audience and some of us made up actions and had props.
Miss McCoy is very proud of us!!
Here is some of us presenting to our class.

The finalists from Room 1 were Emma and Zara.

All of the Juniors and New Entrants did a fantastic job!

Mrs Kearn's and Mrs Sime's were the judges. It was great to have them involved! We loved getting to see Mrs Kearns again.

We gave them some beautiful Spring daffodils to say thank you.

The Room 1 finalists did very well! Emma came third and Zara came second in the New Entrants. We are very proud of them!

The Term our House Colour Day was around keeping New Zealand beautiful. We went around the school and Sheldon park to pick up rubbish.

We really enjoy the House Colour Days. Saying our chants out loud and being with the older children is a lot of fun!

Week 7 1.9.14

It's Spring!
This week we have written Spring stories and decorated some lovely flowers.
We all love to read! Below are a few pictures of the reading activities we have been doing in class. We play reading games, read with our teacher, read big books and spell words using magnetic letters.

Look at our beetle art. We read a poem about Beetles in the garden. These are the colourful beetles we created.
